Dr. Hoffberg has extensive experience and clinical expertise in performing independent medical reviews and expert testimony for medico-legal issues. He has been deemed an expert witness by the State Courts as a physician with Board Certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Physiatry), Pain Medicine and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (EMGs).
He can critically review medical reports or records, and perform comprehensive neurologic, musculoskeletal and functional physical examinations and electrodiagnostic testing for all patients with neurologic, musculoskeletal, orthopedic or painful diagnoses.
Additionally, he is able to write detailed medical reports summarizing care, and make specific treatment recommendations. His reports can synthesize the medical conditions, diagnosis, and determine the causality of the subsequent treatment and care of a patient to the problem, or pro-rate for any pre-existing conditions.
Dr. Hoffberg can also determine whether there was an appropriate and medically necessary utilization of health care services and its associated costs, whether the treatment was “investigational or experimental”, or whether there was a deviation in the existing “standard of medical care” in medico-legal cases based on his medical specialty background.
Finally, he is experienced in the determination of residual impairments or disability (including ratings) with activity restrictions or limitations, with expertise in predicting future medical care or costs (life care planning).
